Filanthi The Project

This is my biggest and most personal project. It is called Filanthi as my grand mothers name, friend of the flowers, and The Project because it is an ongoing personal project of improvement. It started as a collaboration with my very good friend Maritina of Di Architecture Studio, who I very much thank because she was the kick start I needed. This very old building is my great grandfathers house. In 2021 it was in a regrettable state, and I only had a very small budget coming from my first earnings from Surreal Bar. So this is a low budget production with lots of personal work from everyone that loves me. In 2021 we managed to complete only four rooms. In 2022 another nine. Now, in April 2024, we are almost finished with the third part of the renovation and all seventeen rooms will be renovated.

We used natural materials that blended well with the tradition of the building, like wood, rattan, bamboo, fabrics, terracotta, gypsum. The rooms were relatively small and the bathrooms even smaller, so in many rooms we decided to put the wash basin outside the bathroom, as it was in old times. We made DIY lighting fixtures using colored cable and rattan baskets, but also painting plain white ones. The idea is that living in this space should be minimal and close to nature, but also 21st century commodities should be there to make the experience smoother.
